We are excited to announce the launch of this new, unique resource and we want you to be part of this celebration! We recognize the important role that Truth and Reconciliation plays in our country and this resource is but one step in our journey. The program launch is part of CFEE’s commitment in our new Strategic Plan that includes a priority focus on resource development for Indigenous Peoples based on our Mission “To help Canadians undertake economic decisions and actions with confidence and competence.”

The adaptation of this resource integrates Indigenous culture and tradition, including content based on the Seven Sacred Teachings, to provide a pathway that is relevant and respectful of Indigenous approaches for Indigenous Youth, their families and communities. The resource is based on the concepts covered in Money and Youth, a Student Guide to Financial Literacy that has had over 750,000 copies distributed since its initial publication in the mid-nineties. Indigenous Peoples’ Money and Youth carefully builds on the financial concepts of the original version and incorporates traditional teachings, relevant and useful facts, and ongoing reflections to empower Indigenous youth as they take control of their future. The project was guided by Damon Johnston, and with adaptation provided by Vanessa Everett and a team of reviewers from First Nations communities throughout Manitoba and Alberta, as well as allies in this effort from CFEE’s expert team of curriculum and resource development professionals.

Indigenous Peoples’ Money and Youth will be piloted in classrooms and communities throughout Manitoba and across Canada. Over 5,000 Indigenous youth will receive a FREE printed copy of the resource in the Pilot year, and their families and teachers will receive supports and materials to help in that journey. Indigenous Peoples’ Money and Youth is also available in a digital version which is online and FREE with printable resources for students, caregivers, and educators.
