Find Your Match Activity

Financial Capability | CFEE | 04.14.26
Find Your Match is an active, movement-based financial literacy activity that challenges students to connect investment graphs to the real-world savings scenarios that produced them — without ever seeing their own card. Each student is dealt either a graph card or a scenario card, which they hold up beside their head (headbands-style) so everyone else can read it but they cannot. By circulating the room and asking yes/no questions, students piece together clues about their own card and search for the classmate whose card is their match.

The activity features 20 unique pairings drawn from a diverse cast of savers, covering compound and simple interest, GICs, regular deposits, mid-journey withdrawals, and multi-phase strategies. Once pairs have found each other and the reveal confirms the matches, a structured debrief invites students to connect the shapes of their graphs — smooth curves, flat lines, hockey sticks, and dips — to the financial decisions behind them. A short teacher-led mini-lesson on reading investment graphs is included and designed to be delivered immediately before the activity begins. The full activity, including the mini-lesson, runs approximately 45 minutes.
