Nine-year-old Rayyan Husain from Mississauga has been named runner-up at the national Money Fair produced by the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE) and its partner Scotiabank.

The event is part of the ninth annual Talk With Our Kids About Money Day (TWOKAM Day) which showcases the importance of having ‘money talks’ with kids particularly during the financial and mental stresses brought on by COVID-19.

At just nine years old, Husain was one of the youngest finalists in this year’s showcase. He is the chef and owner of “Chef on Saturdays,” a business he started with his birthday money.

The young entrepreneur used his submission to explain everything you need to know to start your own business, even detailing his marketing plan.

In Rayaan’s own words, this entry is “Money Management for young entrepreneurs in a nutshell.”

As part of the TWOKAM program, kids from across the country have prepared money fair projects, in schools and at home, and submitted them for their chance to be showcased in a virtual showcase event.

The showcase features six students or student groups selected from the submissions across Canada.

The program started in 2013 as a pilot in Toronto and Montreal area schools and has since expanded to include schools and homes right across Canada.

The TWOKAM program now runs all year long, with teachers and parents continuously accessing the free and easy to use resources.

There will continue to be the one big day of celebration each year, the third Wednesday every April.

TWOKAM is free and available in French and English.
