Project Overview
Fraud is the number one crime committed against older Canadians — and it is growing more sophisticated every year. Understanding how scams work is the most powerful way to protect yourself and the people you care about. This is a calm, practical place to learn how.
Yet most people are never given clear, trustworthy, and non-commercial information about how scams actually work or what to do when something feels wrong. Let’s Talk Fraud and Scams was created to fill that gap: to give older adults, their families, and their communities a calm, plain-language guide they can return to any time.
This work also reflects something the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education has long understood: financial health and mental health are deeply connected. Being targeted by fraud — whether or not money is lost — can have lasting emotional effects. By helping people stay informed and in control of their financial lives, we hope to reduce both the financial and the personal harm that fraud causes.
